OUR STORY We at SHIFT are dreamers. We dream about the future: the future of our students, the future of our church, and the larger dream God has for us on earth. But most of all, we dream that the next 10 years of church history will be known as The Decade when students discovered God and their place in His dreams —and in the process, changed the world.
We at SHIFT are also observers. We’ve all seen the statistics: The majority of today’s students will leave the church sometime in their twenties. But we’ve also observed these statistics as real people with names and faces that used to be in our ministries. For us, it’s clear the church needs to seek God for new ways to reach out to this generation.
And that’s what makes us at SHIFT learners. In earlier years, we gathered with a dozen or so other youth ministry leaders from around the country and shared what we were learning about youth ministry and how to shift tactics to reach students with the love of Jesus Christ. Over the years, this gathering of dozens has become a conference of thousands. And as youth culture has continued to shift, so has our need to shift tactics.
